Accommodation

Where to stay in The Gambia!

You will find many types of accommodation in The Gambia from luxury or standard tourist hotels to guesthouses, lodges and self-catering apartments. It is also possible to stay with local families if you have the right local connections, otherwise it would be better to choose another accommodation. Most hotels and accommodations are booked in the winter season, which takes place from October until May.

The majority of visitors of The Gambia choose for an all-inclusive hotel, because they stay for around 2 weeks and they want the basic facilities, such as a swimming pool, bar & restaurant and a beach close by. Examples of these hotels are Gambia Coral Beach Hotel & Spa, Laico Atlantic Hotel and the Ngala Lodge. The smaller accommodations in The Gambia get more and more popular mainly because of independent travellers. Most of these hotels have swimming pools and restaurants and the atmosphere is more personal and informal. However, most of them are not located on the beach, because they tend to offer a more quiet place to stay away from the crowded tourist areas. The Badala Park Hotel and Bakotu Hotel are examples of smaller hotels in The Gambia. The hotel prices start from around €15,- per night for a budget room. The average cost of a hotel room is around €45,- and if you want to stay in a luxury lodge then you would pay around €120 per night. For people who like to save money, a guest house is the perfect option. Most of the guest houses in The Gambia do not supply hot water, so this is something to take into account when booking an accommodation. However, it could be nice to have a cold shower due to the high temperatures.

Because we are a sustainable organisation, we also want to point out the accommodations that are sustainable. The Gambia offers a lot of eco-friendly accommodations. These accommodations use solar panels for example, they have a water-waste-disposal system and is built by local, natural materials. In addition, fruit and vegetables that they use for breakfast and dinner, are grown organically by local villagers. We also care about community-based tourism, which means that the local population benefits from tourism. If you want to support the local people, you can stay in one of the accommodations that are owned and run by locals. The Evergreen Eco Retreat and Footsteps Eco Lodge are perfect examples of sustainable accommodations.
